Color Project

'Syzygy' is the word our project is based on. The primary definitions we used are:

SY • ZY • GY

1. The connection of two alike or opposite parts; a yoked pair.
2. Celestial bodies at opposition in their orbits; the Sun, Earth, & Moon in alignment.

We first pursued sets of orbiting square tiles–leading us to a three-part mobile also resembling a yoke straddling the wall. Each branch represents a celestial object–the Moon (cool colors), Earth (earth-tones), and Sun (warm colors)–and contains three pairs of alike and dissimilar colors. We mixed the paint incompletely to add a natural texture to the tiles, as would be found in the natural celestial bodies. We also felt the constant change and motion of the mobile related to the energy that 'syzygy' connotes.
